- As is typical during the CPA Picnic, people come together to see friends and strengthen old bonds. It was no different Saturday afternoon when Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 had an Eagle Scout reunion luncheon.

- The Eudora City Council Monday approved a price adjustment in the contract of Weldon Enterprises caused by rising fuel costs. Prices will increase by $1.25 per month, or 11 percent.

- The Abel family reunion took place Sunday at Nottingham Elementary School with 87 family members in attendance.
- City to raise sewage rates

- Eudora residents will see an increase in the cost of sewage within the next two months as a result of upgrades that need to be made to the wastewater system. According to the results of a wastewater report by BG Consultants, the system cannot handle flows during peak times. One of the ways that problem will be alleviated is through the wastewater lagoon and headworks project, which will cost about $1.2 million. The City Council on Monday gave permission for BG to put the project out for bids.

- Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for primary elections. Polling places according to districts will be: ¢ District 50 (west Eudora) will vote at the Church of Christ, 1530 Winchester Road ¢ District 52 (north Eudora) will vote at Eudora City Hall, 4 E. 7th St. ¢ District 53 (south Eudora) will vote at the Eudora Township Fire Station, 310 E. 20th St. ¢ District 54 (central Eudora) will vote at the Eudora Community Center, 1630 Elm St.
- Medicalodges receives Medicare certification

- It’s Friday afternoon and Eudora resident Richard Folks is in the middle of a physical therapy session at Medicalodges, Eudora as a result of a right knee reconstruction. His left knee requires the same surgery, and while the 84-year-old retiree doesn’t look forward to another round of post-surgery physical rehabilitation, the fact that he will be able to stay at Medicalodges, Eudora on a rehab-to-home basis eases his mind about the procedure.

- Morgan Abel’s prowess on the gridiron earned him a selection to the 2008 Kansas Shrine Bowl, which was played in Emporia on Saturday. What he got in return was a little perspective and a heaping pile of memories, both on and off the field.

- Surpassed expectations are nothing new for Eudora. Still, the Post No. 14 Cardinals most recent improbable run was capped with an exclamation point that no one may have expected. After dropping its first game of the American Legion AA Zone Tournament, Eudora responded with three wins, the last a 16-5 bombing of Bishop Ward, to advance to its first-ever Legion State Tournament.
- Attitude change should remain as gas prices fall

- In the past two weeks, the steady increase in gas prices has started to abate to the point that motorists have been treated to the welcome sight of actual lower pump prices. For some time, experts have said supply and demand didn’t fully explain the constant increases in crude oil prices that flowed down to pumps. It would be a comfort if the falling prices reflect a rational market-driven pricing structure and are not just a temporary respite.

- Eudora High 2008 graduate Matthew Abel received a second team nomination on The Kansas City Star’s All-Metro baseball team. Abel hit .483, had a .630 on-base percentage and stole 33 bases during his senior campaign.

- The Lawrence Raiders, with Eudora High graduate team members Matthew Abel and William Gadberry, qualified for state after winning the American Legion Zone 2 AAA baseball tournament over the weekend in Lawrence.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
