Childcare Providers meeting

July 31, 2008

Childcare providers and teachers are welcome to attend the Kaw Valley Family Child Care Providers meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Eudora Township Fire Station.

Rich Minder, from Success by 6, will speak about the shortage in Douglas County of quality, affordable infant care. Success by 6 is designing a scholarship program that would provide financial aid to aid for families with infants and toddlers up to 30 months old.

In order to use the scholarships, parents would have to enroll their infants and toddlers in early learning programs or childcare homes that qualify. The Scholarship would comes with $1,500 in grants for quality improvements and $1,000 in formal education scholarships annually for each program.

The purpose of Minder sharing is to gauge the feasibility of this proposal to increase the quality, affordability and availability of infant childcare among family childcare home providers and to receive suggestions for the program design that might meet these objectives.
