Woman found alive near abandoned vehicle with blood ‘in and around it’ near Baldwin City
Hours after an abandoned car with blood in and around it was reported near the Black Jack Battlefield east of Baldwin City, Douglas County Sheriff's officers located a missing woman Monday night in a nearby cornfield.
Douglas County Sheriff's Lt. Kari Wempe said that around 7:30 p.m. Monday officers located a 52-year-old woman who had been reported missing in Gardner.
Officers had been searching a cornfield when they made contact with the woman.
"We were close and she came from the trees," Wempe said. "She made herself known to officers."
The woman was located about a half-mile from the abandoned vehicle near the Black Jack Battlefield, three miles east of Baldwin City.
Wempe said the woman was suffering from self-inflicted wounds and was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Baldwin City Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol, including a KHP helicopter, participated in the search, which lasted more than six hours.

I enjoy getting together with family and friends to watch the Super Bowl. I watch the game, but pay closer attention to the commercials.
