City increases dog fines
May 15, 2008
Citing a new charge by the Douglas County Humane Society, the city of Eudora now has increased the amount an owner will be charged each time a dog is sent to the pound.
The Eudora City Council on Monday voted unanimously for the increase in dog at large fines and fees.
Owners wishing to redeem a dog sent to the pound previously had paid $30, but now will pay $50. The increase in redemption is a result of the DCHS charging the city an extra $10 for each dog the city brings to the pound.
Owners had to pay $5 for each day a dog was in the pound, but now will pay $6 a day as a result of increase in feeding costs.
In other actions, the council:
• Accepted easements for the new elementary school.
• Approved the purchase for $6,315.79 in fireworks from Wald and Co., Inc. to be used in the city’s Fourth of July display.
• Approved the use of force policy for the Eudora Police Department.

If owners of dogs are going to have to pay more then the city should do more about all the cats that run free with no tags or leashes. if dogs have to be leashed then why not cats? Cats get in more trash more peoples garages and other places why wont the city do something about the cat population in this town? Dogs get the blunt off all of the animal problems when cats would bring more money in for the community buy the owners steping up and registering and tagging them. I personally would like to see cats banned since the city has a problem with certain dog breeds that shouldnt be banned all because one problem along time ago it not the breed it the owner get in the new century eudora.;
