Teacher of the month glad she chose career

Eudora Middle School keyboarding teacher Beth Zimmerman almost didn’t go into teaching. After she finished high school, she planned on going into the business field but a college advisor told her she would be a good teacher. Last month, Zimmerman’s colleagues agreed with that notion and voted her teacher of the month for September.
Nonprofit daycare center created

It’s nine in the morning and the 12 children at Pyramid Place Early Education Center mill about like ants, each of them working on a specific task independently. Some are coloring at a table, while others clean up activities they’re finished with and then move on to new tasks. It’s clear this is not the typical preschool or daycare center.
Eudora News office moving

The Eudora News will be closing its Eudora office Nov. 14 and moving its newsroom operations to The World Company’s news center in Lawrence.
Timely vaccinations invaluable

On a recent Saturday, I was given cause to ponder why we vaccinate our pets. In these two clinical cases presented to us, both could have been prevented by routine vaccination of the pets. In both cases, the owner had either not vaccinated or allowed them to lapse.
Current 1061 speed limit appropriate

Last week, the Eudora City Council delayed action on a recommendation to increase the speed limit to 35 mph on Douglas County Road 1061 in front of Eudora Middle School. It is to be hoped that delay is the first step to rejecting any such increase.
Community survey results familiar

The results of a survey sent to about 1,000 homes in Eudora mirrored what had been discussed at three prior meetings community visioning.
Downtown construction update

Construction is starting on the curbing on the west side of Main Street between Sixth and Seventh streets this week. Crews also will work on curbing the east side of Main between Eighth and Ninth streets.
Pedestrian committee discusses Web site

Members from Eudora USD 491, along with city officials, citizens of Eudora and Safe Kids Douglas County formed the Eudora Pedestrian Safety Committee last spring in an effort to see more sidewalks throughout Eudora. The group again met Friday to discuss among other things a Web site.
