- JoAnna Male had never run on the cross country course in Gardner until last Thursday. But her inexperience with the course hardly slowed her down as she finished in seventh overall with a time of 18:17 to lead Eudora’s girls squad that finished in fifth place at the meet.

- Resurfacing of Church Street will take place Saturday. Work was supposed to take place throughout the week, but Douglas County Public Works, the City of Eudora and contractor LRM Industries Inc. decided it would cause less disruption to local traffic if work was done on a day during the weekend as opposed to a weekday.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
