Abel sets school record in javelin
Before the Paola meet was suspended because of sever weather, Eudora senior Kendal Abel put her name in the record books.
Abel broke the Eudora High girls javelin record with a throw of 120-feet-6-inches.
“Even with the poor weather conditions, thus far we’ve been able to set three school records in as many meets,” track coach Phil Katzenmeier said.
The Paola meet was suspended after the 400-meter relays, making team point total much smaller than usual. The Eudora girls finished third overall with 45 points and the boys finished ninth overall out of 13 teams.
For the girls, Abel’s throw was good enough for fourth-place, and fellow senior Mariah Webb threw a season best 96-2. Abel also placed fifth in long jump with a leap of 15-2, which was a season best.
Shea Lounsbury placed third in triple jump with a leap of 32-1 3/4. Allison Hoover was first in pole vault at 9-6. The girls 4x800 relay team finished second at 11:15.6. Alisha Wingebach placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.3. The girls 4x100 relay tea of Wingebach, Abel, Tianna Dunnaway and Rachel Pyle placed first with a time of 53.1.
For the EHS boys field events, Cody Carlson placed sixth in the shot put with a throw 42-6 1/4, and Ben Katzenmeier placed seventh in javelin with a throw of 141-8. Sophomore Christian Richardson was sixth in triple jump at 39-9. The 4x800 relay team finished fourth at 9:09 and Justin Ballock was third in the high hurdles at 15.4. Brian White was fifth in the 100-meter dash at 11.3. Next up is a meet Thursday at Anderson County and the Kansas Relays Friday and Saturday.
