Eudora Horsethief date announced
The annual Eudora Horsethief 5k Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. July 11 at 10th and Main St. in Eudora.
The race will begin at the park and is a family event. Two-Much-Fun will play music and there will be a post-race food fest. Parking will be available at the Community Learning Center (formerly Eudora Middle School).
Late and race-day entry fees are $25. Race-day registration is from 6:15 to 7:15 a.m. People may also register online at www.active.com. Registration closes at 8 p.m. July 9. For more information contact Eudora cross country coach Paul Boone.
Folks, Scott named to all-state softball team
Eudora’s Evan Folks and Bailey Scott have been named to the Class 4A all-state softball team.
Folks had a .410 batting average and led the team with 10 doubles. Folks also played well behind the plate at catcher. It is the third year in a row that Folks has made the all-state team.
Scott led Eudora in batting average (.417), hits (30), runs scored (25) and stolen bases (22).
EHS wrestling camp dates announced
The Eudora wrestling camp will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 6 through 9 in the middle school wrestling room. Cost is $15.
Registration forms can be found in the middle school and high school weight rooms. For more information contact Eudora wrestling coach Jason Tharp.
Epperson named 6News Hy-Vee Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Eudora senior Haley Epperson has been named 6News’ Hy-Vee Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Epperson was a first team all-league and all-state selection. Epperson averaged 16 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals this year and helped lead the team to the state tournament.
The video segment with Epperson will air at 6 and 10 p.m. Thursday on 6News.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
