Chamber sets forum schedule
The Eudora Chamber of Commerce mapped out a number of chamber-sponsored events for the first half of the year, with the first of which being candidate forums.
The forums will take place at 7 p.m. March 24 and 26 at Eudora City Hall, 4 E. 7th St.
The March 24 forum will be for the seven candidates vying for the three open spots on the Eudora USD 491 Board of Education.
The March 26 forum will focus on the five candidates running for two seats on the Eudora City Council, as well as the three candidates for the office of mayor.
Elections for all positions will be April 7.
Thursday’s meeting was the first with which new chamber President Amy Durkin presided, and she was pleased with the results.
“I’m excited that we had such a big turnout, and I hope that continues,” Durkin said. “The more people we have, the more ideas we’ll have and the more manpower we’ll have behind those ideas.”
The chamber also set dates for its Summer in the Park events, which were held three times last year at CPA Park and featured various musical acts and merchants.
This year’s first Summer in the Park will be May 23 and will coincide with a ribbon cutting on Main Street that will celebrate the completion of the downtown beautification project.
Subsequent dates will be June 27 and July 11 and each will feature a different theme and type of music.
To raise money for the CPA Park events, the chamber also will explore having a Texas hold ‘em tournament in the spring.
Last year’s events focused on providing business for downtown merchants experiencing a downturn as a result of the partial closure of Main Street because of the downtown beautification project.
While Durkin said the chamber would continue to support downtown businesses, she also hoped to increase the exposure of businesses throughout the city.
