Eudora Police Department to apply for grant
The Eudora Police Department will apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant.
The grant is provided by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Office of Justice Program and the Bureau of Justice Assistance and comes as a result of President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The grant will provide federal, state and local law enforcement entities with means to further combat violence against women, Internet crimes against children and improve the overall functioning of the criminal justice system.
The department is working in concert with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department and the Lawrence Police Department.
The county is eligible for $19,505 in funding, Lawrence is eligible for $278,240 in funding and Eudora is eligible for $10,340 in funding.
The EPD is required to publish the fact that it is seeking the grant and make the information available for public comment.
