- The Eudora High School Drama Club takes the stage Monday night during a dress rehearsal of the fall play, entitled “Under the Big Top.” The play will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday night in the Eudora Middle School auditorium.
- Ryan and Corey Grace, Eudora, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Eleanor Catherine Grace, on Oct. 16, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces and was 21 3/4 inches long. Eleanor was welcomed home by her brother, Noah, and sisters, Ava and Hannah. Grandparents are Jerry and Lisa Rhodes, Norcatur, and John and Rita Grace, Topeka. Great-grandparents are Ron and Jerry Temple, Norcatur, Bud and Helen Rhodes, Jennings, and Mary Wessling, St. Marys.
- Katrina and Scott Hammerschmidt, Eudora, announce the birth of their daughter, Kallie Mae Hammerschmidt, born Sept. 30, 2009, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park. Kallie has a brother, Elias Joseph Hammerschmidt, 2. Her maternal grandparents are Steve and Karen Chambers, Lawrence; her paternal grandparents are Elden and Margie Hammerschmidt, Hays. Her great-grandparents are Bill and Wanda Chambers, St. Joseph, Mo., Edna Hammerschmidt, and Al and Aletha Denning, all of Hays.
- Jeff and Lynsey James, Gardner, announce the birth of a daughter, Natalie Anne James, Sept. 23, 2009, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Natalie weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and was 21 inches long. She was welcomed home by her 2-year-old sibling Tyler. Her grandparents are Ron and Janis Newton, Linwood, Jan James, Shawnee, and Rusty and Caprice James, Blue Springs.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
