Unless nine homes are built before Dec. 31, it will be the fifth time in the last six years that new housing starts have decreased from year to year.
The lack of new homes have spelt doom for Durkin’s Hardware, which will close its doors by the end of October. The store will be the fifth to have closed in Eudora during the last year.

The new school year brought another enrollment increase in the Eudora district. Figures from Sept. 20 showed the district’s headcount had increased by about 35 students — 1,987 in 1997-1998 compared to 1,052 the previous year.

EudoraFest is a big and busy day for those at Pyle Meat Co. But it also gives them an opportunity to catch up with friends from around the area.
Roberta Lehmann said that Pyle Meat Co. has been serving at EudoraFest for about eight years or so, and it will be one of several food vendors at this year’s EudoraFest on Oct. 3.
