City of Eudora names interim fire chief
The city of Eudora has named Chris Moore its interim fire chief, effective Jan. 16.
Moore has been fire chief of the Wakarusa Township Fire Department for about seven years and he is contracted to work no more than 20 hours a week for Eudora.
He will continue in his position at Wakarusa and he will serve with Eudora for about 15 weeks.
During that time, the city of Eudora will bring in Rick Fagan, of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, to perform an assessment of the department.
Fagan then will provide staffing structure options for the council to consider. The structure currently consists of volunteers and one full-time chief.
Moore said he was happy to help out and that, in a way, he was returning the favor done for him when he became chief at Wakarusa.
“I was sort of thrown into the mix at Wakarusa and the city of Eudora was there to help me out,” Moore said. “I was flattered that they approached me and I am more than happy to help out in a time of need.”
Fire Chief Randy Ates, who resigned in December, will continue to serve until Jan. 15.
