USD 491 Board of Education candidates announced
The Board of Education last Thursday discussed appointing one of nine candidates for the Board of Education position vacated by Keith Nowland.
The candidates are Dr. Peter Bock, Dr. Daniel Dickerson, Jason Hoover, Michael Howard, Nancy Jackson, Marion Johnson, Bryan Maring, Michael Warner and Christine Yoder.
The applications must be reviewed during an open session and the board likely will schedule special meetings within the next month to interview candidates.
The applicant chosen will serve until the next general election in April 2011.
Nowland resigned his position because he had moved out of the district in November and, according to the Kansas Association of School Boards, no longer was eligible to serve on the board.
In other actions, the board:
• Heard from construction consultant Don Swartz regarding progress of construction projects related to the
$45 million bond issue.
Swartz said if the district decided to build a stadium, the projects would come in about $940,000 over budget.
The district will find out more specifics on stadium costs at the February meeting, where it will discuss a list of the supplies needed to build the facility.
The board members could choose certain parts of the stadium they would like to have built and other parts on which they would wait.
