Eudora Middle School principal to leave at end of academic year
Eudora Middle School principal Rich Proffitt will become superintendent of the Southeast of Saline School District. Proffitt has been principal at EMS since 2006.
"I was principal at EMS when we hired Mr. Proffitt as a social studies teacher in 2002," said Eudora Superintendent Don Grosdidier, "and I have enjoyed working very closely with him over the years since. He has demonstrated the kind of leadership, vision, hard work and resolve that will make him a tremendous asset to the Southeast of Saline district — its teachers, parents, students and patrons."
Proffitt, who taught social studies at EMS for four years before becoming principal, will finish the school year in Eudora. A formal search process for his replacement is expected to begin shortly.
"Eudora Middle School is a great school," Grosdidier said, "and we want to make sure the next principal will help sustain its success over the long term."
Proffitt said he was excited about the opportunity in the small, central Kansas district, as it will fulfill his long-held professional goal of serving as a school district superintendent. He received his district-level administrator credentials in 2009.
Leaving Eudora will be bittersweet, he said.
"This district has been my home for many years," Proffitt said. "I cannot say enough good things about our staff, our students and our community. As a superintendent in a new district, I will take with me what I've learned in Eudora. The leadership and innovation I've seen and experienced here has helped define my vision of what is truly possible in public education."
