Bertie Lee Morriss 1922 - 2009
Funeral services for Bertie Lee Morriss, 87, Eudora, were Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary’s Eudora Chapel. Burial was in Eudora Cemetery.
Mrs. Morriss died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Medicalodges Nursing Center.
She was born June 1, 1922, in Wichita, the daughter of Albert J. and Imo Young Smith.
Mrs. Morriss was a nurses aide at the Eudora Nursing Center for 20 years. She also drove a school bus for Eudora schools.
She was a member of Eudora United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge and Eagles Auxiliary. She worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” on Boeing B-29s.
She married Merle Morriss on Jan. 19, 1946, in Wichita. He died Oct. 29, 1983.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher.
Survivors include a daughter, Merlene McCormick and husband Price, Eudora; a son, Allen Morriss and wife Cherylene, Lawrence; a brother, Kermit Smith, Oklahoma City; four half-brothers, Albert, Danny, Jerry and John Smith; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katrina, Shirley, Kevin, Kurtis and Travis; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the Eudora chapel.

As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
