Services for Randy G. Smith, 44, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Feb. 7, 1963, in Jonesboro, Ga., the son of Gale Burtrum and Betty Margaret Walters Smith. He received his GED and then continued to learn mechanics operation, receiving several certificates as an operator.
Mr. Smith worked as a heavy equipment operator for many companies and helped build the trafficway in Lawrence. He also worked as a welder for Zimmerman Steel in Lawrence.
Survivors include many family and friends.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?

As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
