Eldon O. Cox 1925 - 2007
Funeral services for Eldon Orval Cox, 81, Eudora, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery.
Mr. Cox died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Newton, Mo., the son of Orval Robert and Gertrude Ilean Pierson Cox.
Mr. Cox graduated from Independence, Kan., High School in 1943. He joined the U.S. Army in February 1944 and served until May 1946. He served in the European theater during World War II.
He worked for the Neosho Valley Cooperative Creamery Association from 1949 to 1967. He then worked for IML Freight Line in Kansas City until he retired on March 1, 1984. He moved to Eudora in 1977.
Mr. Cox was a member of the Eudora Assembly of God Church, American Legion Post No. 102 in Erie, the V.F.W., Erie Blue Lodge Masons, Scottish Rites 42nd of Fort Scott, the Teamsters Local 41 in Kansas City, Mo., and the American Rifleman Association. Mr. Cox also was a member and served as vice president of the Eudora Library Board.
He married Marjorie Lou Culbertson on March 21, 1948, in Erie. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Nancy Marnell, Bartlesville, Okla., and Jacqueline Crumrine, Wichita; three sons, Rex Cox, Lawrence, Gary Cox, Wichita, and Brent Cox, Eudora; two brothers, Amos Cox, Preston, Mo., and Andy Cox, North Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Betty Cook and Alta Ruth McKinney, both of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Friday until the service.
