Donald M. Luther 1926 - 2008

Funeral services for Donald M. Luther, 81, De Soto, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died February 6, 2008 at Hillside Village in De Soto, KS.
He was born November 18, 1926 in Edwardsville, the son of William and Ethel Allen Luther.
He worked as a welder and mechanic, working for Allison Manufacturing in Olathe, Southwest Ornamental Iron in Bonner Springs and Sunflower Ammunition Plant. He was a member of the Pipefitters Association in the Medal Trade Branch. He enjoyed playing the Harmonica, fishing, picking mushrooms and was an avid pool player.
He served his country as a Private in the Army serving during the Korean War.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Elms and husband, Charlie, Lawrence; Donna "Tweet" Manker and husband, Greg, Baldwin City; Kathy Mallonee and husband, Harold, Lawrence; three sons, Jerry Luther and wife, Joy, Lecompton; Randy Luther, Eudora; Steven E. Luther, Pomona; one sister, Audrey England, Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Janice Blackman and Lita Bateson and two brothers, Wayne and Francis Luther.
The family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the mortuary.
