Harold Lloyd Handshy 1933 - 2008

Funeral services for Harold Lloyd Handshy, 75, of Webb City, Mo., will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Mo. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Mr. Handshy died Monday July 28, 2008, at Joplin Health Care Center, following a long illness.
He was born February 19, 1933, in Hallowell, Kan., the son of the late Harold and Golda (Draeger) Handshy. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1963 he graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Harold worked as a chemist for Gulf Oil for 15 years. In 1974, he became the owner of several Western Auto stores, one of which was in Carthage, Mo. In 1984, he went to work for the Western Auto Company Division, retiring in 1996.He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City and the American Legion.
Harold married Nancy (Warwick) Card on Aug. 21, 1976, and she survives. Their union combined a family of seven children; three sons, Patrick Handshy and wife Karen, Wichita, Michael Handshy and wife Tiffany, Coppell, Texas., and Richard Card; four daughters, Melody Kagel and husband Bill, Fremont, Calif., Monica Durkin and husband Don, Eudora, Michelle Bryant and husband Kevin, Eudora, and Cathy Waggoner and husband Darrell, Webb City; one sister, Velma Corder, Gilbert, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and two nieces.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network in care of the mortuary.
