Amy Louise Cawley 1911 - 2008
Mass of Christian Burial for Amy Louise Cawley, 96, Olathe, was Wednesday, March 5, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church in Valley Falls. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Miss Cawley died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
She was born Aug. 15, 1911, northwest of Valley Falls, the daughter of Thomas and Mary McAsey Cawley. She lived in Lawrence from 1998 to 2005.
She graduated from St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., as a registered nurse, and received a Bachelor of Science in nursing at St. Louis University and later a master's degree from Yale University.
She served during World War II as a Navy captain in public health, and also taught public health at several universities.
She attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church when she lived in Lawrence.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including Bob Cawley, Eudora, Marie Ice, Lawrence, and the Rev. Tom Cawley, Independence, Mo.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Cawley Jr. and Paul Cawley, and two sisters, Sister Anne Cawley and Maureen Wenzl.
A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
