William A. Barth 1913 - 2008

Memorial services for William A. “Bill” Barth, 95, of Lenexa will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Monticello United Methodist Church in Shawnee.
Mr. Barth died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at the Sweet Life at Rosehill Nursing Home in Shawnee. Visitation was Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Barth was born June 25, 1913, in Scio, Ore., and moved with his family to Kansas when he was 3 years old.
He was a carpenter most of his life and but also was a home builder, an owner of a plumbing business, a real estate salesman, an insurance salesman, a machinist, a farmer and worked a stint as a cowboy. He was very community minded and involved in many civic groups such as the DeSoto School Board, Monticello Zoning Board, Johnson County Rural Water District No. 1 Board, Monticello Cemetery Association, Monticello Historical Society and the Monticello United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family and being outdoors hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Mae Caldwell Barth, as well as all of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his five daughters, Judy Blamberg, Overland Park, Sylvia Courter and her husband, Jim, Woodland Park, Colo., Pat Benn and her husband, Steve, Lenexa, Mary Canny and her husband, Roger, Johnson, and Willy Snow and her husband, Michael, of Eudora; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
