Thad Oliver Johnston
A private family gathering will be at a later date for Thad Oliver Johnston, 36, Fort Collins, Colo. Cremation already has taken placed.
Mr. Johnston died Feb. 6, 2009.
Thad served as a Corpsman in the United States Navy during Desert Storm and Desert Shield, saving thirteen other soldiers during his tours of duty. As a result of his heroic actions he received the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star.
Thad’s recent move to Colorado filled his last months with sheer happiness and joy, and that is how he will be remembered by family and friends.
He is survived by his mother and father, Robert and Judy (Tarwater) Degenstein; five brothers, Eric Johnston and his children Blake, Trayton and Shalisha, Scot Johnston and his daughters Taylor and Katlyn, Adam Johnston and his children Holly, Eli and Ian, Krystopher Hylton and his children Xavier and Olivia, John Hylton and daughter Jayden; several aunts, Nancy Freeman, Lori Tarwater, Susan Woods, Hazel “Lady” Davis, Susan Tarwater; and numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his life mate Frank; his grandparents, Hazel Hunter and James O. Tarwater; his uncles, James Tarwater and Bob Freeman; and his nephew Melvin Freeman.
Thad was a disabled veteran. The family suggests memorials to the American Disabled Veterans sent in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
