Robert Lee Coleman 1936 - 2009

Memorial services with fire department honors for Robert Lee Coleman, 73, Eudora, were Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Taylor, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical chaplain, officiating. Cremation is planned.
Mr. Coleman died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Perry, the son of Maurice and Ruby Rogers Coleman. He graduated from high school in Perry and later served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Mr. Coleman was employed by Lawrence Fire Department and retired as battalion chief in 1992 after 34 years of service. He was also a prisoner transporter for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He and his wife did volunteer farm work in Perry and provided maintenance at Lone Star Lake.
He was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 and the Retired Firefighters Breakfast Club.
He married Faye A. Stewart on March 2, 1982, in Ottawa. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Denise Mead, Tonganoxie; a stepson, Lonnie Godsey, Topeka; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Twila Coleman.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
