Mrs. Bales died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Medicalodges in Eudora.
She was born April 13, 1920, in Ozark, Ark., the daughter of Dennis and Minnie Mae Shestid Childers.
She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in New York. After her time in the Navy, she became a homemaker.
She married Joe H. Bales; together they celebrated 65 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Bales, Lawrence; a granddaughter, Kerrie Adent; a great-granddaughter, Ella Adent; and a sister, Dea Ratcliff, Memphis, Tenn.

As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
