My favorite is, without a doubt, John F. Kennedy. He got personally involved in my life about one month before he was assassinated as I was involved in an international "autobahn incident" in Berlin, Germany. The Russians would probably still have me in some awful place if it had not been for my commander-in-chief's intervention.... I was the photographer for the 2d. Battalion, 26th. Infantry, 1st. Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, on a "long thrust exercise" which had the potential to evolve into something terrible....

Thanks to President Kennedy I came home to "serve" two "tours" of duty in Viet Nam, with the First Cavalry Division Airmobile from July 1965, untill December 1966....
