- Surpassed expectations are nothing new for Eudora. Still, the Post No. 14 Cardinals most recent improbable run was capped with an exclamation point that no one may have expected. After dropping its first game of the American Legion AA Zone Tournament, Eudora responded with three wins, the last a 16-5 bombing of Bishop Ward, to advance to its first-ever Legion State Tournament.

- Morgan Abel’s prowess on the gridiron earned him a selection to the 2008 Kansas Shrine Bowl, which was played in Emporia on Saturday. What he got in return was a little perspective and a heaping pile of memories, both on and off the field.

- Ballock battles injury in sophomore year at Pitt

- As a Cardinal, Megan Ballock seldom faced a challenge she didn’t overcome. An All-State athlete on the track and the cross country course, Ballock pushed herself to be the best and punished any opponents who tried to get in her way. As a member of the Pittsburg State University track and cross country teams, the course has steered Ballock in a different direction.

- It was a run the team may remember for years to come. With its back against the wall heading into the weekend, Eudora rattled off four straight victories and came within three outs of beating the No. 1 seed and earning a berth in the Kansas Amateur Baseball Association league championship game. The Cardinals were tantalizingly close to the crown, yet few would have predicted them to finish anywhere close to third.

- The attention span of a 4-year-old boy or girl may be a difficult thing to keep, especially when out on a baseball field. The solution? A relatively new game called blastball, and it’s a hit with Eudora’s youth.

- Monday night’s 7-on-7 passing league finales saw Eudora pick up another pair of victories, which brought its final record to 5-2-1. While impressive, coach Gregg Webb said he didn’t expect to learn a lot about his team during the four weeks of the league.

- A team can’t win the state title or even a single regular season game in June. But the foundations for fall triumph are laid in the summer and on the last day of June, coach Gregg Webb’s team took a large step towards victory.

- Softball has been a way of life for sisters Kelly and Karen Spence. Each one found success on the diamond while at Eudora High School then turned that into a chance to play in college. Now, after stellar seasons at their respective schools, both are hanging up their cleats and bidding farewell to the game.
