Who exactly are the fools in this matter?
Driving through the park on an early Saturday morning, seeing 30-40 deer, and concluding they look healthy is not “research.”
Criticizing park officials for ignoring the problem for five years or more and then opine that a truly humane solution could be found if the same officials would only take a little more time is only repeating the same action and expecting a different result.
I suggest to you that the results and reporting of your “research” would have been more informative and beneficial to you and the readers of your column had you examined and reported on the education, expertise and experience of the park officials and conservationists who have concluded the solution to this problem is the culling of the deer. I am predicting you would have discovered they are neither fools nor savages.
Please, no more delays. Respect the decisions of the professionals and let the culling happen. To call for a delay or to physically engage in preventing this culling only serves to identify oneself as the fool.
