New school earns rave reviews at Meet Your Teacher event

I'm writing this, and posting it from Dover, Delaware.

In 1963 and 64, I lived in Fort Riley, Kansas, and with the exception of Chicago, Illinois, I cannot remember a more disagreeable, unfriendly, or hostile environment (Atmospheric Conditions, i.e. HOT and COLD climate....) Kansas beat me up and forced me to seek a more agreeable, and cordial climate.... BUT there are very much more important issues, one must consider.... The future....

Yesterday: Wed., Aug. 19th., 2009 I saw this wonderful report on LJWorld.... It was an article about the brand new Eudora Elementary School and the professionally produced video was a product of Mark Boyle at TV6.

My granddaughter is 6+ years old, and her first day in first grade was eventful for her, and as a result, I saw her and I heard her voice for the very first time as a accidental product of Mark Boyle's excellent work. For whatever the reason, Mark Boyle dwelt with my granddaughter long enough for me to get a very good detailed and animated look at her, her teacher, and their stunning NEW academic environment.

Eudora, Kansas is quite fortunate to have this wonderful new school, and double lucky to be endowed with the producer of this great video: Mark Boyle!

I am truly grateful that Eudora, Kansas is giving my grandchildren this remarkable opportunity to pursue and acquire a very much better education than mine....

Eudora is fortunate to have in it's midst Mark Boyle. Here's what I'm talkin' about: http://www2.ljworld.com/videos/sets/2...

If you see this comment Mark, Thank you Mark Boyle.... I appreciate and enjoyed your work thoroughly!

What advice would you give to the Eudora High School graduating class of 2009?

Bill Gates withdrew from college because "school tended too interfere with his ability to make money!"

Not everyone is endowed with the gift Bill Gates has....

If one can afford college, and if one has the ability to achieve the desired effect.... DO IT! Go to college....

Many college educated "degreed" people are NOT able to find "gainful," promising, meaningful employment today, however those who are college educated have a clearly distinct advantage in the "Job marketplace."

If it's so that you can do it, please try to get a better education, and earn a degree....

Do you support moves in the Kansas Legislature to ban smoking in public places?

When I was born, both of my parents smoked. I lived in a very small house with 4 sibling, and all four of us were “addicted” to tobacco by the time we reached our teen years…. I was smoking by the eleventh year! Yes I was 11 years old with a lust for Camel, and Lucky Strike cigarettes.

I loved my cigarettes, and I did evolve too a three packs a day habit! When I quit smoking my "brand" was Winston 100s.

I NEVER smoked in the presence of my daughter!!!! That because unlike the executives of the tobacco industry, and those who "govern" us, I knew that smoking is “hazardous” to one's health…. AND smoking is addictive…. AND “parents” are “role models….”

If nothing else the government “of the people, by the people, for the people” owes the “people” protection from irresponsible public conduct by ignorant, ill informed “citizens.” who lack the wisdom, understanding, will power, and self discipline to respect the lives, health, and well being of others who are NOT smoking…. Especially our children!

WHAT has taken the government so long to act? The Taxes on tobacco products are BILLIONS of state, and federal tax dollars.... Without the tobacco taxes paid to the government, there would be less government!

What is your reaction to the various proposed financial cuts to public education?

Teachers have bills (School Loans.) too repay just like the rest of us.... "The grass is always 'GREENER' on the other side of the fence."

I believe that if a teacher sees an opportunity to make more money in another state because of the misguided judgments of legislators who give them selves absurd pay raises.... They better expect the teachers to leave the system longing for quality educators for the future of Kansas!

The children of Kansas are the future of Kansas. Take good care of the education of the children, and the children WILL take care of Kansas....

What is your favorite springtime activity?

Yard Sales! Flea markets. carnivals, community festivals, public parks, camping, BUT more than anything else.... I'm a beach bum....

Warm weather forces me to the beaches of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. The Atlantic Ocean is my playground.... I've been to the beach several times this winter, but soon the weather will invite me to stay for two seasons....

What is a sure sign to you that spring is here for good?

While it's true I'm Playing Over Here, I'm also very serious about gardening, and the "growing season." For me, the growing season is safe from the "Freezing" temperatures of winter after the Lilacs are adorned with their flowers. I wrote this poem for tomatoes, as it's safe to plant them when the lilacs are in bloom.

When the Lilacs are "flowering" Winter is "history" and the arrival of spring is no longer a mystery....

Who is your favorite president and why?

My favorite is, without a doubt, John F. Kennedy. He got personally involved in my life about one month before he was assassinated as I was involved in an international "autobahn incident" in Berlin, Germany. The Russians would probably still have me in some awful place if it had not been for my commander-in-chief's intervention.... I was the photographer for the 2d. Battalion, 26th. Infantry, 1st. Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, on a "long thrust exercise" which had the potential to evolve into something terrible....

Thanks to President Kennedy I came home to "serve" two "tours" of duty in Viet Nam, with the First Cavalry Division Airmobile from July 1965, untill December 1966....

Severe weather season starts in Kansas in March. Does your family take any extra precautions for protection?

This comment is from Dover, Delaware where Tornadoes occur, but do so infrequently. I have a distant relative (A second cousin twice removed.) who lives in the southwest corner of Kansas, who's home was in the path of one of those tornadoes. She survived but her home did not. Many of the citizens of her home town got together and rebuilt her house, and she still works there as a school teacher in her community. I never thought to ask her how she prepares for the season....
