The Facts

Eudora has become a birds nest. Raise the young and then they go away. We are now a bedroom community with not much to offer them. With the new school bond the tax break that would have been is now gone. The old bonds dropping off would have free,d up not less than $60.00 per month for most households. Now that that is gone, we won,t see any new businesses come or will we be able to spend a few extra bucks doing something with our kids.I just dont think the board see,s what is happening to our town.It is sad to see our town get into the shape it is in.The cost to live in Eudora is out of reach to most now.Not many people now can afford to buy a home here and survive.Who ever thought it would cost $2.200.00 a year tax,s on a $130.000.00 home in Eudora Kansas. We are now 28% higher than even Lawrence.sad sad deal.I know many are going to sell and move soon, if they can dump there houses.

The Facts

E eyes ) You got it. We as citizens are getting screwed over by the board. We pay one of the highest tax rates in the entire midwest and our board is only concerned about adding another school, moving the awesome sports field and enticing students from out of district. If we at leats got some vasoline first it might not hurt so bad. Our school board has managed to destroy any hope of our citizens of getting even a minute tax break and has totaly put our teachers on the back burner. I can not believe the yessers have allowed this to happen and even more suprised the teachers have not walked out. Face the fact teachers, your not getting more pay and the board doesn,t give a crap about you. They used you to pass the bond and lead you to believe something will come of it.You were pawns just like many others. You might see a raise in 2009 after they beg and beg the state to allow them to pluck more money from all the citizens and raise the mill rate again.Fact, teachers wont get a raise and we the citizens are going to be so overtaxed that nobody making under $100.000.00 a year will be able to stay living in Eudora. It will be a 100% bedroom comunity, thats going to suck, but it is a fact. The average yearly income in Eudora is now at $52.000.00 a year and is dropping about $1.200.00 a year for the last 5 years.Disposable income is down 67% over the last 3 years.Tax rates have gone up 38% in the last 4 years. The numbers dont lie.

The Facts

It is pretty sad that they want this new , pretty , huge uneeded school, but dont want to keep the great, awesome teachers we have now. Maybe they figure they will leave and can hire cheaper ones since after this bond passed the thought of a mill rate rise will pis- off an entire district .Lots of fun times are ahead for us and our teachers.Yes our board is now in a place that nobody will like soon.Huge mill rate increases and taxation like no other district in a 20 state area. Can,t wait to see some yesser homes go up on the auction block in the next few years. We are headed for the tax increase of the century.

OLD HOME on New Proposed School Ground

Should know something next week on the stay on the Durr home. I have to call the judge back.it would be great if Mr. Durr would just say, naaa the place is not for sale now. That would rock....save Eudora history for those kids to enjoy for many many decades.Just another tidbit, i am letting some local contractors know about the bidding on the proposed school to get a chance at it. B A Green const out of lawrence has been a huge help with information and others as well.I can say if we can keep the folks that built the other new schools out of it, that would be great. Keep some of the money more local that way.

The Facts

I was in contact with a judge today and i will know next week if the order to stop all work within 500 ft will be issued. Gutted or not the home is still of interest to the KHS and a private party is looking into the history of it now. A 120 day stay is what we are after to give the KHS enough time to meet with the party who is researching the facts on the home. In the end it will only cut about 22 acres off the total land purchase , leaving plenty for the new school to sit on.(g man,) the story you get from the board is not exact and somewhat jaded, so be careful what you take to heart. The KBOE was unaware of a bar being less than 1000 ft away from the location of the proposed school, when i contacted them. They thought that was interesting to know. I also let them know about land farther to the north and a better location, less money as well.

GREENMAN for PRESIDENT!

The bar was there first. If they even think about shutting it down they will have a lawsuite that will break there bank. The board will have to mortgage thier own homes to come up with the money needed to try. Those numbnu-- should have thought the location over before they did the stupid bond deal.Just another thing that sucks about the bond that just passed.

City Growth Planning group ?

You are right teddy, you hit the nail on the head. The city might be "unknown to me" but our group will still be in place to oversee things and speak for the citizens.A real business paln and a growth plan are needed very very soon.

November 13, 2007 at 10:21 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

downtown

The plan was put on hold by our city administrator. Not real sure why. I think it has to do with the city not having the part needed to do it. Now with the school bond raping our tax dollars it may never happen.I can only guess on this i have no facts to the matter, it,s kinda been hush hush.....G man will have the answers though. I gots to add this BE CAREFUL the building North of the Coffee shop, that building is loosing pieces and they are dropping down on the sidewalk, be careful. It is condemed but the city wont force the owner to doze it down .It is however very safe to go to the great coffee house, its great.Awesome place for those who have not been yet, yummy stuff.
