I just don't understand why Eudora city and Eudora township are separate. Places I've lived have always been all ONE department under ONE chief. You have your fire department and if it covers a large area they have what is called a RURAL district. Still, that department has the same personnel and apparatus responding whether it's in town or not.
Ok guys. Look, most towns these days have ONE main department, consisting of members that are firefighter certified, or firefighter/first responder certified. Usually in a county, each town has a fire department, and if covering a large area, they'll have a sub-station in the rural part of their district.
If a fire department in that town is paged out, they respond as ONE department. The only time it would be someone else responding is if they needed assistance or if it happened to be in the wrong district. As far as medical runs, the FIRE DEPARTMENT is paged out and the FIRST RESPONDERS on that department respond. And an ambulance usually responds with them.
So, let's take Eudora for example. If there is a fire in the rural area of Eudora, there should be no "Eudora Township FD" responding, it should be responded by ONE WHOLE department that which has only ONE FIRE CHIEF. Therefore meaning take out the township let Eudora have one department that controls all the district. If a member lives out in that area, grab a truck from their station 2. EMS being separate is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings though.
EMS should be in with the FD, everything together. Have firefighters and first responders all together. You could call it Eudora Fire/Rescue. Have one tone for the whole department, have it dispatched as rather a fire or medical. This is just my opinions and what I think.
I'm very concerned about our local fire department. I don't know if you others realize, but if Eudora City Fire, Eudora Township Fire, and Eudora EMS were to all combine into one, it would save tax money!!!! In my opinion, there is NO reason to fund THREE agencies, when just one good one could get the job done. The Eudora Township Fire is broke and the Eudora City Fire is progressing very rapidly. I hope this makes you guys think about something.
Also, with the fairly new Chief Ates, the department has been run very well, he is very knowledgeble and know's what he is doing!
