I'm very familiar with the construction bidding process. The company will have to be bonded for the amount of the project which will cut out some of the local contractors. They'll probably have a construction manager act as a general manager and bid the work out so in that capacity the locals could bid on it and hope the general carries the bond. Once the bid package is ready for bid, it will be posted in all the local papers and on the Reeds report web site. Usually the low bidder is the chosen contractor unless they have a bad reputation or do not hand in all the necessary paperwork. I'd say if someone is bidding on it you do not like, their past customers/owners need to submit a letter stating they were dissatisfied with their work or something. Sometimes their web sites state what projects they've worked on lately and you could contact them.
The City is already putting together a planning/vision group. Do you know anything about this? I think we need a Economic Development Committee like DeSoto does. Their Chamber is very involved and for some reason ours is not as vocal or involved as I think it should be in these areas. I think the vision should start with the existing businesses. I'd think they'd want to develop Eudora so other businesses would come and help bring traffic.
How many of you buy a 32 oz. soft drink at either a fast food restaurant or gas station for about $1.29? Talk about a rip off! You could buy a whole 2 liter for that price or even a little more, but think of the value you'd get. Those drinks are way overpriced and most people that fill up on gas, get one to three of those drinks daily. They are way overpriced. They just don't hurt you so bad at a time. But if you are talking value for dollar, they are even worse. It all depends on how you look at it? Do you smoke? Should we talk about those prices?
The Facts
MoneyWatch - where did you get the 28% higher than Lawrence figure? I'd like to look into that.
