Memorial services for Nancy Ann (Charles) Gabriel, 54, Eudora, were Saturday, Aug. 12, at DeSoto Baptist Church. An additional service was held Monday at Lake Cemetery, Republic.
Mrs. Gabriel died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Kansas University Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 28, 1945, in Superior, Neb., the daughter of Don and Jean (Kendig) Charles. She graduated from high school in Republic in 1963, and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Kansas State University in 1970.
Mrs. Gabriel had taught for 25 years in the Emmett, St. Mary's, DeSoto and Olathe school districts, and she was a member of a number of professional educational organizations. She received an Excellence in Teaching award from the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City in 1992.
She volunteered for activities including general education degree completion courses, Pet Partnership, education for homeless youths, the Jane Goodall Institute, Special Olympics, Crop Walk and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
Survivors include her husband, Arlen Gabriel, of the home; a daughter, Christie Eubank, Portland, Ore.; a son, Dane Peterson, Richmond, Va.; her parents, Don and Jean Charles, Republic; and two brothers, Michael Charles, Republic, and John Charles, Hays.
The family suggests memorials to the Nancy Charles Gabriel Memorial Fund, and they may be sent in care of DeSoto State Bank, 33050 W. 83rd St., DeSoto 66018.
