Abel couples to celebrate 50th anniversaries
Carl and Geraldine "Jerry" Abel and George and Mary Abel, all of Eudora, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries at a reception from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Eudora High School, 2633 Church Street, Eudora.
Family and friends are invited to attend. The couples request no gifts.
Geraldine Langan and Carl Abel met while Carl was "cruising" Main Street in downtown Eudora.
They were married Jan. 6, 1951, in Eudora, with the Rev. J.L. Douglas officiating.
Carl graduated from Eudora High School in 1947. Jerry graduated from EHS in 1950. Carl works on the family farm. He also retired as an electrician from Farmland Industries, Lawrence. Jerry retired as an assistant vice president from Kaw Valley Bank in Eudora. The couple have three children and three grandchildren.
George Abel and Mary Komer met on a blind date.
They were married Jan. 7, 1951, in Eudora, with the Rev. Lorenz Rieth officiating.
George graduated from Eudora High School in 1945. Mary graduated from Loretto Academy, Kansas City, Mo., in 1948, and attended Webster College, St. Louis, Mo.
George also works on the family farm. Mary is a homemaker.
The couple have 12 children, 34 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
