Harold E. Stafford
Graveside services for Harold Eugene Stafford, 81, Eudora, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Valley Falls Cemetery, Valley Falls.
Mr. Stafford died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 17, 1920, in Valley Falls, the son of John Melvin and Margaret Jessie (McCoy) Stafford. He had lived in Eudora for the past 30 years.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
Mr. Stafford was a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike Authority for 15 years until his retirement on April 16, 1998. He was also a long time salesman in the Lawrence area.
Mr. Stafford was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church.
He married June (Pettis) Staples June 5, 1971, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Sherrill Jean Grinter, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three stepsons, James C. Staples, Thomas L. Staples and Charles H. Staples, all of Tonganoxie; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.
