Chester A. Fleming
Services for Chester Alden Fleming, 94, Eudora, were Wednesday, Dec. 8, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Eudora. Burial was in Eudora Cemetery.
Mr. Fleming died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at the Eudora Nursing Center.
He was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Salina, the son of John A. and Bertha Holmes Fleming.
Mr. Fleming graduated in 1940 from the Kansas University School of Law. He worked for the federal government as a claims representative, claims authorizer, field representative, acting manager and supervisor for the Social Security Administration. After retiring as a supervisor, he practiced law in Eudora for five years before turning the practice over to his son.
He was a 70-year member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he was a choir member and served on the church council. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Mason-Doric Lodge No. 83 AF & AM in Eudora, serving twice as master. He also had been president of the Eudora Township Library board of directors.
He married Violet Gerstenberger on Aug. 29, 1936. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Carl Fleming, Eudora; a daughter, Karin McKean, Wichita; a brother, Bill Fleming, Falfurrias, Texas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A granddaughter, Christina Kanzig, died earlier.
The family suggests memorials to the Eudora Library's large-print book fund. They may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary's Eudora Chapel, 1103 John L. Williams Drive, Eudora 66025.
