Helen E. Kraus
Services for Helen Eugene Kraus, 86, De Soto, were Wednesday, Sept. 15, at De Soto Baptist Church. Burial was in De Soto Cemetery.
Mrs. Kraus died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Linwood, the daughter of Lee Clarence and Mina Belle Dent Brannock. She graduated from Linwood High School. She spent most of her life in De Soto. After her retirement she moved to Buchanan, Texas, and also lived in Shawnee before moving back to De Soto.
Mrs. Kraus worked as the city clerk of De Soto for 25 years before retiring in 1976. She previously had worked at the Hercules Powder Plant as a secretary.
She was a member of the De Soto Baptist Church. She also was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in De Soto.
She married Lloyd M. "Butch" Kraus on Jan. 3, 1937 in Richmond, Mo. He died July 8, 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Larry L. Kraus, Shawnee, and Phillip R. Kraus, Overland Park; a brother, Ronald Brannock, Perry; a sister, Dorothy Lynn, Topeka; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her twin sister, Nellie Dean Brannock, and another sister, Edna Maxine Brannock, and a great-grandson died earlier.
