Cards to open with two home games
The Eudora Cardinals open the 2005 football season in the comfort of its home turf. And as a bonus, they get to stay there the following week.
This year's edition of the football season opens the schedule with back-to-back home games starting with the Sept. 2 opener against Wellsville. A year ago the Cardinals blanked the Eagles 21-0 on the road.
The following week the Cardinals face off against the Osawatomie Trojans at Eudora.
It will be a chance for redemption as the Trojans routed Eudora 38-17 last season.
The first road challenge for Eudora comes against Prairie View.
The Buffalos may have a sour taste in their mouths after last year's 54-0 drubbing at the hands of the Cardinals.
The Cards pounded out eight touchdowns, including one on defense in the victory.
After another road trip to Anderson County, the Cardinals settle back into the confines of home with a two-game stint that includes homecoming versus Central Heights and culminates with what may prove an important Frontier League game Oct. 7 against De Soto.
Last year, the Cardinals traveled to from page 1B
De Soto and were stunned 12-7. De Soto's victory, which was its first in more than a decade against Eudora, earned the Wildcats the Frontier League small-school title.
The Cardinals will take a one-week break from Frontier League play Oct. 14 when they travel to Santa Fe Trail. The game, however, has post-season implications as it marks the start of district play.
After a game on the road at Santa Fe Trail and a final regular-season home stop versus Spring Hill, the Cardinals wrap up the season with a Thursday night game Oct. 27 at Baldwin.
Not only is the game a rivalry, but it also has implications for the post-season as well.
At the end of last season, the Bulldogs upended the Cardinals 14-6. The loss put the Cardinals on the road for the first game of the playoffs.
