Donner selected to elite youth choir
Eudora High School freshman Katie Donner was one of 140 singers selected to the Allegro Community Children's Choir, which is comprised of three choirs -- Allegro Con Brio, Allegro Con Moto and Poco Allegro -- from around the Kansas City metropolitan area. Members range in age from grades three to 12.
Donner was named to the Allegro Con Moto (Allegro with Motion). It is for treble singers who have a love for singing and a desire to excel to a higher performance level. The innovative, fast-paced rehearsals resemble a "mini voice lesson" in age-appropriate literature and pedagogy.
The choirs began rehearsing in Overland Park in August. Christy Elsner is the founder and artistic director. The program is now in its seventh season.
This year's theme is "Allegro, a Self Portrait."
The choirs' first performance will be at the Allegro Community Children's Choir Annual Benefit Concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo.
Admission is free, however a free will donation will be collected to benefit Children's Mercy Hospital.
Other performances are available on the Web site at www.allegrocc.com.
