Obituary: Danny R. Brune

1920-2007

Services for Danny Rothwell Brune, 87, Lawrence, were Saturday, March 31, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. He was cremated.

Mr. Brune died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at his home.

He was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Douglas County, the son of Gus W. and Doris Rothwell Brune. He grew up in the Midland area. He graduated from Kansas University in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Mr. Brune worked for an aircraft plant in Texas and as an engineer in New York. He later worked for an auto manufacturer in Detroit and as an engineer at Sunflower Ordnance Works in De Soto. He returned in 1947 to Kansas, where he continued farming. He served on the Midland school board and Kaw Valley Drainage District for 35 years.

He married Elizabeth Josephine "Betty Jo" Svoboda on Nov. 6, 1943. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Daniel C. Brune, Tempe, Ariz., Albert W. Brune, Lawrence, and Stewart F. Brune, Seattle; a daughter, Marilyn J. Brune, Eudora; a brother, Harold Brune, Jefferson County; a sister, Ruth Sherwood Bowlin, Olathe; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Douglas County Hospice, Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit or the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence 66044.
