St. Paul United Church of Christ, Eighth and Church streets, will begin its advent season by lighting the first advent candle during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship. Each service will take place at 10 a.m. during advent followed by refreshments during the month of December.

The church's "Hanging of the Greens" celebration will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and "The Longest Night" worship will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 22.


  • The Rev. Michael Tomson-DeGreeff at Eudora United Methodist Church will begin his advent sermon series Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary/Eudora Chapel, 1003 John L. Williams Drive, east on 10th Street on Douglas County Road 442.

Topics include "Miracle on 34th Street: Waiting for a Miracle," Dec. 2; "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer: A Misfit Helping Other Misfits," Dec. 9; "It a Wonderful Life: What If You Had Never Been Born?" Dec. 16; and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Thank Goodness for the Grinch," Dec. 23.

The public is invited to participate in any or all of the sermons.
