Tootsie Roll drive
The Knights of Columbus District No. 18, Lawrence and Eudora, recently announced the results of the Tootsie Roll drive to help those with intellectual disabilities. The event Oct. 12 to 14 raised $3,273.34.
Eighty percent of the proceeds from Council 1372, St. John the Evangelist in Lawrence, will go to Cottonwood Inc. and the ARC of Douglas County.
Eighty percent of the proceeds from Council 12932, Holy Family in Eudora, will go to Cottonwood Inc.
Eighty percent of the proceeds from Council 12960, Corpus Christi in Lawrence, will go to the Douglas County Gators and the Wyandotte County Bears Special Olympic teams.
The remaining 20 percent will be donated to the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament in Hays, which is March 13 to 15.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
