Boys rebound, beat Spring Hill

February 22, 2008

For the three seniors on Eudora's boys basketball team, D.J. Fritzel, Dylan Rust and Morgan Abel, Friday marked the last time they'll play on their home basketball court, and they'll be able to remember "Senior Night" in a positive light.

After dropping a tough loss Tuesday against Ottawa, the Cardinals took control of the game in the third quarter and coasted to a 67-59 victory. Sophomore Justin Ballock led Eudora in scoring with 20, while Fritzel and Rust added 11 and 10, respectively.

"They've done a tremendous job," Deterding said of his three seniors. "They are the leaders by example. They're not all vocal, but I couldn't ask for any more out of those three. They've gotten more out of what they have than about any group I've been around."

Eudora trailed by one at halftime, but outscored the Broncos 26-16 in the third. That propelled them to a victory that may gather some momentum for the Cardinals heading into sub-state.

Eudora opens sub-state at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Basehor. The Bobcats were 14-5 heading into their regular season finale against Bonner Springs Friday.
