- When Mike Underwood signed up for a $1,000 shopping spree at Durkin’s Hardware, he didn’t think much would come of it other than some phone calls from someone trying to sell him hardware. He was more than happy to have been proven wrong Thursday.

Most teams have attended a team camp - as Eudora did at Northwest Missouri State two weeks ago - and now are molding position players in the passing game through non-contact scrimmages. But the early season work could have a hand in building champions.

- Eudora USD 491 has once again looked within to fill an important administrative post. Marla Johnson has been named the district’s interim director of curriculum and instruction. Just a few months ago, Johnson was named Eudora Middle School teacher of the year. She has been teaching math at EMS for the last nine years, and she has 20 years of teaching experience.
- Condemnation hearing set for Main St. wall

- The Eudora City Council at a meeting Monday approved a public hearing for the condemnation of the Main Street wall. The hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Eudora City Hall during a city council meeting.

- The long-anticipated downtown beautification project may start a month later than hoped. But the delay in construction will not derail the activities the DEBA has planned, the first of which being a treasure hunt that is set to begin Tuesday.

- Getting into character as Lefou in “Beauty in the Beast” isn’t too difficult for Victor Gossage. “It helps that I have an extremely outgoing, goofy personality already,” Joked the 26-year-old who grew up in Eudora and graduated from De Soto High School in 2000. “Most of it is being an extra goofy me and then changing my voice.”

- The second session of Blastball for kids ages 3-5 is registering now. Price is $25 for 4 “game nights”. BlastBall is an introduction to baseball/softball fundamentals. The deadline to sign up is Friday and the first night of games will be July 7.

- The following Eudora students made the Pittsburg State University honor rolls for the 2008 spring semester.
- Council will further discuss Durr House

- Eudora City Council members decided to set aside time at a budget meeting Monday to discuss the city’s role in the purchase of the Durr House. Earlier this month, the council discussed the possibility of purchasing the 109-year-old home and transforming the homestead of three generations of the Durr family into a historical museum and headquarters of the Eudora Chamber of Commerce.

As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
