The Eudora boys basketball team snapped it’s two-game losing streak and ended the first part of the season with a 67-28 victory Friday at Prairie View.

Eudora jumped out 20 to 5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

“We played well the second half, so that’s what felt good,” coach Kyle Deterding said. “The win necessarily is not what we’re worried about. We’re worried about playing good and getting better, and we did that in the second half. So it was a positive coming out of there.”

Coulter Vestal scored 16 points to lead four Cardinals in double-digit scoring.

“He did a really nice job inside,” Deterding said of Vestal. “He’s a tough kid in there, and he finds a way to get it done in there. And our perimeter guys played pretty well.”

Justin Ballock and Drew Noble scored 11 apiece, and Connor Scott added 10 points for the Cardinals. Ballock also pulled down 13 rebounds in the contest.

Eudora also filled up the scoring column as Matt Jump scored two, Jordan Ballock one, J.T. Sellers four, Brian Katzfey five, Hawley Montgomery had four and Mack Hartwell scored two.

In the second half, Eudora outscored Prairie View 33 to 10. Deterding said about the only time his team didn’t play well was during the second quarter when Eudora was outscored 13-11. But the team’s strong second half made up for that.

Deterding added that the team would look to improve at practice during Christmas break.

“We’ve got to find a way to become a better practice team,” he said. “We’re not a very good practice team. We have trouble in practice. We’re not getting better in practice. And if we’re going to get better in games, we’ve got to find a way to become a better practice team and work harder in practice and get things done there so it will translate into the game.”

Eudora (4-2) will next play rival Baldwin Jan. 8 at EHS. Eudora will then play Wellsville, De Soto, K.C. Sumner and compete in the Tonganoxie Invitational.
