Excellence continues at USD 491
Eudora USD 491 received 14 of 24 possible standards of excellence from the Kansas State Department of Education for the 2008-2009 school year.
The district had received 18 standards of excellence in 2007-2008,10 in 2006-2007, nine in 2005-2006 and 11 in 2004-2005.
At the building level, areas of excellence included reading and math for Eudora High School; reading at Eudora Middle School; and reading, math, science and writing at Eudora West Elementary School.
Students at Nottingham Elementary School were not tested.
At the grade level, areas of excellence included reading for grades three, four, seven and eight; and math for grades three, four and eight.
At the district level, 87.5 percent of students met or exceeded the standards in math and 88.5 percent of students met or exceeded the standard in reading.
Compared to last year, district math scores were down from 88.3 percent and reading scores were up from 88.1 percent.
“It speaks very well of our district,” Director of Curriculum and Instruction Marla Johnson said. “It speaks to the fact that we have very hard working teachers, we have students who understand the importance of an education and parents who understand the importance of an education.”
