5 Questions: Parenting pointers to be given at seminars Monday
The first Parents University will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Eudora West Early Childhood Family Center.
There is no cost for the event, which includes two seminars and is sponsored by the Eudora Schools Family Resource Center. Free dinner and childcare will be provided.
Anissa Norris, who manages the center, talked about the event.
Q: What is the purpose of the Parents University?
A: Parents University is an opportunity for parents to come together and learn more about topics that are relevant to parenting and families. Parent input is also requested on topics presented at future events.
Q: Do people need to register to attend the meeting?
A: Yes, registrations were due Monday, October 26th. Space may still be available though, please contact Anissa Norris, Family Resource Center Manager to check. 785-542-4920, extension 1531.
Q: What is the first seminar about?
A: The first session, “Consistency and Connections,” will be presented by Marie Triechel, from ERC Resource & Referral, an agency specializing in area resources, organizations, and human services available to women, men, children and teens. She will share ideas on the importance of consistency in discipline, keys to cooperation and building strong healthy relationships with your child.
Q: What is the second seminar about?
A: The second session presented by Cindy Johnson, Eudora Schools food service director will focus on nutrition, specifically trimming fats from your diet creatively.
Q: Will Parent University have more meetings?
A: Yes, the district hopes to offer Parents University twice yearly, most likely in the fall and spring. Various other opportunities for parents will be offered through the Family Resource Center throughout the year as well.
