5 Questions: Eudoran starts clothing closet
Christine Zimmer has started His Hands clothing closet, 924 Locust St.
Q: How long have you been providing clothing for the community?
A: I’ve been doing this for five months out of my house, and I’ve been delivering to Lawrence a lot.
Q: What made you want to start the clothing closet?
A: I went to Goodwill and saw the prices for used clothing is anywhere from $8 to $16, and it made me so mad. All that stuff is donated. So I went on Craig’s List to see if there, were any nice people out there and I got a response and felt like this is what I’m supposed to be doing.
Q: What is your favorite part of doing this?
A:I was once in need, and I think we’ve all been in that spot. It makes me feel great to know I’ve helped.
Q: What has the experience been like thus far?
A: In the beginning, I would cry when the people would cry, but now I just feel good. I just hope people pay it forward, and they have. It’s come full circle and I get people who I’ve helped calling me and offering their help. People need to know in these times that other people out there care for them and will help them make it through.
Q: What are the hours?
A: From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, for now. But people can call or email to make appointments.
