Anna Belle Black 1924 - 2008

Funeral services for Anna Belle Black, 84, Lawrence, were Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial followed in McLouth Cemetery.
Mrs. Black died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence.
She was born May 13, 1924, in Burlington, the daughter of Homer and Ruby Dark Baker.
Mrs. Black graduated from Liberty High School in 1942. She worked for Gibson Pharmacy for 14 years as a pharmacy clerk. She and her husband owned and operated K&A Market in Oskaloosa for four years. She enjoyed cooking and quilting.
She married Kenneth Harley Black Sr. on Feb. 14, 1942, in Lawrence. He died March 11, 2004.
Her parents and a brother, Carl Baker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Jr., Ft. Worth, Texas, and Dee Jay and wife Renee, Iberia, Mo.; two daughters, Sharon Sue Wright, Eudora, and Vicki and husband George Winningham, Corsicana, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Mendenhall, Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County VNA Hospice or to St. Luke A.M.E. Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
