Couple celebrates 40th

Bob and Barbara Cawley, Eudora, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Barbara A. Gish and Robert J. Cawley Sr. were married Sept. 16, 1961, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Lawrence.

He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1952. He attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison and also Kansas University. He served two years in the U.S. Navy and then worked for the Lawrence Post Office. He retired in 1993 after 37-1/2 years.

She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1955. She is a homemaker, and a former employee of Hallmark. She was also the recreation director for the City of Eudora for several years. She worked for the Eudora School District as a bus driver for 10 years, and at Hercules Inc., for several years. She retired in the mid-90s.

The couple has three daughters, Cheryl Cawley, Camdenton, Mo., Kay Becker and Theresa Abel, both of Eudora; two sons, Steve Cawley, Gardner, and the late Robert J. Cawley Jr.; and eight grandchildren.

Their children, their spouses and their grandchildren hosted a family dinner at a Lawrence restaurant on Sunday, Sept. 2, as an early celebration of the occasion before the couple left for a trip to the West Coast.
